How hard has it been to get your music noticed?
It was hard at first especially because I started from scratch all at once. I started djing just over a year ago but the moment I got my residency within like 2 months of being confident i had the hang of it, I just went in full throttle.
Tell us a random fact about yourself?
I am a qualified scuba diver.
Describe your music in three words
Peace Love Unity
If you could play at any venue in the world where would it be and why?
I couldn’t really answer. There are so many that I would play at. I would play at any venue with a crowd that love what being played to the point were all they can do is dance and rave.
If you could go on tour with any band/artist who would it be and why?
Fat boy slim or Groove armada. They are both artists that i listened to from a young age and are two of the artists that fueled my love of raves even before i knew i would be a DJ and event organiser
What has been the best gig you have played?
It would probably be the first event I did in Ulverston there was only me and one other DJ. I had to do a 3 hour set right till the end, I totally zoned in and played one of the best sets of my life ! It was pure passion
What are your plans for next year?
To expand Tusk even further. Find bigger venues and more DJs and acts to put on with more artwork and crazy club decor.
If Tusk had to be remembered for one thing what would it be?
Spreading happiness.
What is a typical day/week like for you?
Day job, put the hours into tusk at night. Sleep and spend well deserved time with my Girlfriend.
Do you have a pre-show ritual?
Not really just have a calm day I like to meet up with all the other DJs and just chill before the storm
What’s advise would you all give to a DJ that was trying to make it?
Persistence and confidence. Never give up and don’t loose momentum. Even if you haven’t played a gig before but you know you would kill it get into a club ask them for a set and usually if you have the confidence and the goods they will let you play.
What do you think makes you stand out from the other DJs?
I don’t really know. I have major passion for what it do and I am incredibly critical of myself.
Do you have any funny/interesting gig stories you can share with us?
One of the nights we were running I had a couple of DJs booked and we all went for drinks before the gig. We all we having a laugh and we went to go to the venue for a sound check and to kick the night off , he said “ill meet you there”. we kicked the gig off and an hour passes and he isn’t there, when I did find him he was completely smashed. He got on the dance floor and fell knocking one of the speakers over. I told him that I was going to do his set, next minute I see him over the other side of the club with a pint of water. He came over 10 minutes before he was supposed to go on. He said he was ready, So I let him loose with all my fingers crossed and to my surprise he pulled out one of the best sets I have heard him play. And little did I know he downed a pint just before and after the pint of water I saw him sulking with.
What has been the most random thing a fan has done to you or at a gig?
I was DJing at a rave and somebody came up and just handed me a handful of nails and said you’ll need them. but then as my set went on 4 or 5 other people came out the crowd to give me a handful of nails
If you could only listen to three albums for the rest of you life what would you pick and why?
Etherwood, Etherwood because it was the album that my girlfriend and I were listening to when I asked her out and almost 3 years later it still makes me just as happy as that day.
The Cat Empire, Two Shoes because I heard the album when I was young and I spoke to me and is a major part of the reason why I am who I am today.
Ben Howard, Every Kingdom just because every single note and sound is just plain beautiful.
Final questions if you could write a song or collaborate with any band/artist who would you pick and why?
Again it would be The Cat Empire, as they have been an amazing influence to me and I would probably cry if I met them.
