Dead Natives are a four piece Indie/Alternative Rock band from Surrey/London who are considered a band to watch in 2017.
Described as a band with soaring guitars, vocals coursing with attitude and a lively rhythm the band infuse elements of psychedelic rock and modern day brit-pop.
Their debut 3 track E.P ‘Something Strange’ out now!
Liam, Nick, Robbie and Adam were kind enough to answer a few questions we had, here are their answers.
Where did the name Dead Natives come from?
It came from the concept of like being disconnected from somewhere that you’re born into. Even though we like some of the towns we live in, we sometimes feel disconnected from it musically.
How did you all meet?
Me (liam) and nick have been playing together a couple of years, we met Robbie online and Adam through mutual friends.
Which song was the most difficult to write?
For me (Liam) I find the writing process fun and pretty natural so I tend not to struggle when I write something and bring it to the boys however getting the right melody for the song coast to coast took a while.
How hard has it been to get your music noticed?
It’s difficult!!! But we keep trying with selling CD’s, plugging online etc and so far we’ve had some good AirPlay with BBC and got a support slot with the Sherlocks next month! Buzzing.
Tell us a random fact about a band member.
Nick still plays Lego.
Where would be your dream venue to play?
Shepherd’s Bush empire we love! It’s got such great character. All the old theatres have such energy.
If you could go on tour with any band/artist who would it be and why?
Blossoms or arctic monkeys – simply because we love them. Maybe oasis if they were around but that would be carnage.
Describe each band member in one word.
It’ll be too explicit.
What has been the best gig you have played?
We played a little show in reading that was great fun but probably our headline show at O2 academy 2 in Islington.
What are the plans for this year?
Keep gigging, learning, writing and then in the summer recording a new EP!
Do you have a pre-show ritual?
TEQUILAAAAA
What advise would you give to a small band that were trying to make it?
(like us) to keep writing, learning and constantly developing – knowledge is everything and you can never stop learning. But also to have fun, this is what we love at the end of the day.
What makes Dead Natives stand out from other bands?
I think we give a new take to the current sort of indie scene, we tend to sort of combine elements of our influences eg – britpop bands like oasis with more psychedelic elements.
Do you have any funny/interesting gig stories you can share with us?
Liam’s came out during a song and he thought it was still in. It was amusing watching him play (thinking it was still in)
What has been the most random thing a fan has done to you or at a gig?
Not exactly a gig but a girl from Thailand wants to make a fan video of our EP track ‘coast to coast’ because she liked it so much! Pretty cool eh!
