Band of brothers Scott Bugg and The Vital Few are a Nottingham based band made up by Scott Bugg (Lead vocals/guitar), Brett Calladine (Bass/Vocals), Ashley Groves (Vocals/Percussion), James Smith (Vocals/Harmonica), Phil Evison (Drums) and Chris Beecroft (Cajon). They have recently released their debut EP ‘Sunny Daze’ and what a debut EP it is! from the first time I heard the whole EP I was hooked. I got the tracks from the EP stuck in my head and I was singing them for days on end, sometimes this is the worst thing ever! However, it wasn’t in this case. I rather enjoyed having the tracks stuck in my head and tapping along to them. I’ve been lucky enough to see these guys perform the tracks from this EP live and what a joy they are to hear live.
The EP is a little over 14 minutes of fresh and catchy tunes with some kick ass harmonies, from listening to the EP their music reminds me of a 50’s Skiffle band with a modern twist. Each track has been recorded really well and shows some great instrumental talent from all the band members as well as some fantastic vocals. It’s a great EP full of quality songs which you can tell has been put together with a lot of care and attention to detail.
My favourite track from the EP is ‘Heart of Stone’, from its ridiculously catchy chorus to its phenomenal guitar riff towards the end of the track it had me tapping and singing along from the first few seconds of hearing the track. It was the first song I had ever heard from these guys and it’s one that stood out to me and was stuck in my head for days after I first heard it. It’s catchy, uplifting and just a great song to listen to.
A fantastic debut EP from a talented band, you need to listen to the EP to find out for yourself how brilliant these guys are. A well recorded little treat you’re sure to enjoy from an exciting band that I can see going far! Be sure to look out for these guys and if you get the chance to see them live then go for it! You will not be disappointed.
