The Hydra are an Alternative Rock/ Funk Metal trio from Liverpool made up of Isaac Roberts (Frontman), Amber Morris Clarkson (Bass) and Callum Price (Drums).

Here’s what they had to say when we got the chance to ask them a few questions.

How did you all meet?

Isaac – “Callum and Amber have been in a relationship for awhile – didn’t you meet in school?”

Amber – “High School, but we only got together in college”

Isaac – “I met them for the first time in college, we wereactually made to do a music project with each other and it started from there”

Who were your influences growing up?

Amber – “I listened to a lot of Motown growing up and loveLed Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Abba, Fleetwood Mac”

Callum – “I love talented drummers like Buddy Rich andTravis Barker – and bands like Rage Against the Machine, Arctic Monkeys and RedHot Chilli Peppers”

Callum – “But I do like artists like Seafret and Ed Sheerantoo”

Isaac – “I listened to a lot of bands like Queen and Musegrowing and got more into different bands, like Deftones, Rage Against theMachine, Sundara Karma, Nirvana and Gojira”

What made you want to be in a band?

Isaac – “Us and a few others were put in a band for aproject in college (as we’re all on a music course) and started gigging outsideof college, couple of people left and we realised we just had drums bass andvocals, and decided that we wanted to experiment with that, so we got an olddistortion pedal and started writing and gigging and it went well, we realisedwe liked our sound so wanted to make more of it”

What has been your best/worst gig?

Isaac – “Weirdly both were at the same venue”

Isaac – “The worst was the first one with the new bass drumsand vocals setup and it was messy, going in and out of time, things goingwrong, we all felt disappointed In ourselves after that gig – we properlyknuckled down after that”

Amber – “The best was just one of those gigs where the crowdis completely involved, singing along to our songs – Isaac got a mad chantgoing at the end – It was just awesome”

Describe your music in 3 words.

Callum – “Crazy, Rhythmic, Different”

Amber – “And Funky”

Isaac – “Loud as well – That’s more than three”

Can you tell us a bit about your music?

Isaac – “We like to think we’re a bit unique, we have justbass drums and vocals and use what we have to make our sound, we use pedals andlittle things to make our sound what we want it to be, we’re looking toexperiment more in the future, we don’t limit ourselves that much with specificgenre we’d say, we make music we want to make, but I think what we do couldfall under alternative rock – maybe funk metal?”

What makes your band stand out from others?

Isaac – “As we say, we don’t have the usual rock setup, wedon’t have guitars, just an electric bass with pedal, drums and vocals, and itworks for us, gives us a unique edge, makes us stand out, especially when wepeople hear us and realise that sound is coming from just us”

Callum – “I can’t think of another band that sounds like us”

What are your plans for the rest of 2018 and 2019?

Isaac – “We want to record more singles, maybe an EP. We’relooking at going on a UK tour at some point in 2019 too”

If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart fromyour music what would you like it to be?

Isaac – “Making people feel something when they see us -we’d like to be remembered for our uniqueness and for changing the game a bitin music too hopefully”
