The Rivers are a 3-piece Indie/rock band from South Wales who’s current line-up have been going for almost 2 years, they have released our first single ‘For You’ September earlier this month and followed up with ‘Juncture’ September 14th.

We managed to get the band together and ask them a few questions, here’s what they had to say.

First of all, can you tell us a bit about your music?

“All of our songs are based on real people or real situations , they’ll start with a lyric or a certain riff and the song will come together from that, then I’ll take it into the boys and they’ll make it sound big and help build the picture so to speak”

Growing up who were your musical influences?

“Although we all have a mutual taste in certain bands we’re all into our own kind of thing, our bassist (Evan) is into Pixies and psychedelic stuff , Our drummer (Nathan) is influenced by hiphop loads and I’m into bands like The Strokes and ‘The Arctic’s a,Oasis those bands that were smashing it when we were growing up”

Describe your music in three words.

“real , rock & roll”

You have two new singles out called ‘For You’ & ‘Juncture’ can you tell us a bit about both of them.

“We’ve recently released two singles from our upcoming EP we worked with Nick Swannell/Studio 49 ‘For You’ was the first which is a song about wanting that perfect person in your life and how you’d do anything to have/keep it and then the latest ‘Juncture’ which is just about a night out and having a one off meeting with someone and not wanting that moment to end I guess”

Any plans for anymore new music to be released soon?

“We have a EP ‘Life in general‘ out Sept 21st but we have enough tunes to record at anytime to be honest, just finding the time”

What would you say the music scene is like where you’re from?

“South Wales in general is a good place, there’s loads of young bands coming up especially in Cardiff , I’m from Merthyr and I think there’s one venue left, but that means we get to gig all over Wales instead of just be confined in gigging in Merthyr so that’s a plus in a way”

What is your favourite venue to play at?

“JAC’s in Aberdare has always been good to us so I’d probably say there”

What has been your best/worst gig?

“Our best gig would have to be when we played ‘Creature Sound’ in Swansea we supported ‘White Riot’ I believe , it was a good turn out and we played one of our best sets , worst… we don’t really have many shockers to be fair,  luckily haha, I guess our first one was a bit ropey but that’s to be expected, would love to go there again soon”

Any funny or interesting gig stories you can share with us?

“Ah it was our first gig with our current drummer Nathan and it was a disaster , not from a playing point of view but just the night itself, we were due to go on at 8 I think and we ended up going on at like 10 maybe later, there was issues with getting mic stands there and it was all a bit mad… not sure why our drummer stayed after that glad he did though”

Have you got any gigs coming up?

“We’re headlining Caerphilly Muni September 27th Will be the first gig after the EP so we’re buzzing for it”

What are your plans for the rest of 2019?

“Just to gig as much as possibly write as much as possible and see where things go really”
