Of Australian/French origin, Etoile is a songwriter and artist based in London. Her music is described as dark Pop meets bluesy Rock with a unique tone and lower register in her voice often likened to that of the beautiful Sade.

Etoile takes musical inspiration from artists such as Dusty Springfield, Jeff Buckley, M.I.A and Portishead and is enamoured with pop culture, surrealism and Spoken Word/Rap.

We got the chance to ask Etoile some questions, here is what she had to say.

Who were your musical influences growing up?

“Best of Crowded House was the first album I bought! But my dad listen to a lot of Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel, I also listened to Sade, The Labyrinth movie soundtrack and jimi Hendrix. As a teenager Jeff Buckley’s “Grace” album was my all time favourite along with Lauryn Hill’s “Miseducation”.

What has been your best gig?

“Hands down when I first started playing open mic nights in Melbourne, Australia. This little dive bar called the “Comfy Chair”, it was always rowdy on those nights but for some reason whenever I got up to play the room would go dead silent…the host used to say “You could hear a pin drop”. It’s amazing to have a whole room of people intently listening to every lyric!”

Can you tell us a bit about your music?

“My next single “Cuffing Season” is out on the 18th September and it’s really a song for the colder months! It’s a dreamy pop song with jazz and old school RnB influences. It’s also the first track off my upcoming EP (out Nov 27th) and will be followed by the title track of the EP “LockItDown” which is out October 30th”.

Can you describe your music in 3 words?

“Dreamy. Funky. Sexy”

What makes your music stand out?

“I’ve been told that my voice is quite unique, some of my upcoming tracks on the EP are bi-lingual (French) and I like to create a cinematic or theatrical soundscape in most of my songs”.

What are your plans for the rest of 2020?

“Well the 2 singles and EP for starters! I also have a video clip coming out for each of the 6 tracks off the EP! The one I’m the most excited about is “LockItDown”, it’s a dance video! And I have some re-mixes and new co-writes ready for release in 2021 so there’s a lot going on!”

If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?

“The quirkiness and the creativity, being in my own lane!”

Any gig’s coming up?

“Yes! Thurs 1st October at Moustache Bar in London, first exclusive listen to all the new songs coming out! It’s an acoustic show so it’s really music that has never been heard, I’m pumped!”
