The Nagging Doubts from Sydney, Australia have released their double single ‘Berlin / Marine’. Formed in high school, the band released their debut EP ‘Deug Lane’ into the world via ex-Lemonheads drummer Nic Dalton’s label imprint Half A Cow. The release then led to working with with acclaimed producer Wayne Connolly (The Vines, You Am I, Youth Group) and stepping into a new direction: all darkly simmering, glittery post-punk ambience; and punchy, hook inspired baselines – the result of which is ‘Berlin / Marine’ and a brand new EP, ‘Autocalm’ scheduled for 2021.
‘Berlin / Marine’ hints at what is to come from the EP; a feast of diverse sounds, and a young band showing they are not afraid of travelling to all points of the compass to find their sound. The band’s mission is to absorb but not mimic the great artists of the last decades, thankfully exposed to the 5-piece through their parent’s superb vinyl collection.
The double single which is available to on all music platforms shows that the band have no fear as they continue to create their unique sound which will grab your attention in seconds. The layered sounds and haunting vocals helps to create something special that you can’t help but love.
‘Berlin’ is the darker of the two singles, the layers of synths and basslines will draw you in within seconds. As I was listening to the lyrics, I couldn’t help but hear the influences from the likes of Joy Division which I won’t complain about.
‘Marine’ is the slower of the two singles but what a track it is, it brings together the vocals between male and female voices and is a more reflective, haunting piece.
I must admit these two incredible singles have made me a fan, the bands sounds is right up my street and had me hooked within seconds. A young band showing they are not afraid to create music that stands out.
