Katy For Kings

Katy is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from Essex, the new single ‘Words Around’ is now available on all platforms.

We got a chance to ask Katy some questions, here’s what she had to say.

Who were your musical influences growing up?

“Disney Channel actually played a pretty huge part in me figuring out what I wanted to. I grew up with High school musical and Camp Rock. I got a plastic Hannah Montana mic and guitar set for one of my birthdays and I had Jonas Brothers posters on my wall. Everything had a soundtrack and everyone made music. The first CD I ever bought was Selena Gomez and The Scene”.

Can you tell us a bit about your new single ‘City?’

“City was written during a time where I was still figuring out my emotions. Its heartbreak, nostalgia and infatuation all in one. It also slightly touches on the issue of co-dependency. Thats something I struggle with quite a bit”.

Can you describe your music in 3 words?

“Wordy Over Sharer?”

If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?

“Right now I’m going to say Harry Styles, mainly because I think we could do a mean duet of That Don’t Impress Me Much by Shania Twain”.

What are your plans for the rest of 2021?

“Just to make as much music as possible and be proud of how everything sounds and looks at the end of the year. I’m making a big effort to not let statistics weigh on me too much although I’m very aware of how important they are. I’m currently working two jobs as well so I’m hoping by the end of the year I’ll have a bit more stability to drop one of those”.

If you had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?

“Aside from the obvious ones of being kind, open-minded and passionate I’d have to say my clothes and my energy. I see so many photos of legends like Stevie Nicks from the 70s in her different outfits and I just think to myself “thats someone who knows who she is.” Clothes are one of the most interesting things in the world to me, as shallow as that may sound and I’m just getting started on my journey into spirituality and crystal healing. I feel very privileged to be able to answer this question in this light”.

What other artists are you listening to at the moment?

“I’m currently listening to Kacey Musgraves album Pageant Material. I also love Lizzy Mcalpine and I’m listening to a lot of John Mayer”.

Any gig’s coming up?

“Not at the minute! I’m very focused on writing and releasing. Something might come up though, you can never be too sure”.
