“The Lilly Wave is a new project I started after my band dismembered last year during lockdown. Currently it’s just me at the moment in my bedroom writing and recording. My name is James and I’m from Ellesmere Port. The music is all over the place at the moment as I found my feet and audience but ranges from Pop to Pop Rock”.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
“I have quite a clique music taste. I only really got into listening to music probably at like 17 years old even though I’ve played guitar since I was 11. I love The Beatles along with John and Pauls solo stuff, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Oasis, The Verve, and then more modern stuff like The 1975, The Night Cafe and John Mayer, Catfish and the Bottlemen”.
What made you want to be in a band?
“I originally wanted to just be a lead guitarist in a blues band or something but got pretty fed up of blues music and fell in love with Indie music. I think the first Catfish album ‘The Balcony’ made me want to start a band. The music from old band was very similar to that Rock Indie sound”.
What has been your best gig?
“Again, I only started this during lockdown so I haven’t even begun to put a live band together yet. Best gig in my career would have to be either Telfords Warehouse in Chester (We used to sell it out and have a blast), or I used to play guitar in a Bob Dylan tribute band where we played the Liverpool Echo Auditorium”.
Can you tell us a bit about your music?
“I currently have 2 singles out with a 3rd coming on the 25th June! The first single ‘In The Morning’ is my poor attempt at writing a John Mayer song mixed in with The 1975 style soundscape. My second single Amsterdam is actually a song I wrote for my old band that we never released. The next single is quite different again from the previous two with 80s Pop vibes. Think late night driving vibes”.
Can you describe your music in 3 words?
“It’s honestly too early to say as my releases are all very different. Guitar driven ambient vibes”.
What makes your band stand out from others?
“I hope to start combining my love of guitar music with pop music. that’s definitely the way my music is going”.
What are your plans for the rest of 2020?
“Keep writing music and find what people like. With me writing and producing It all myself it’s pretty straight forward to get music out there. Just got to give myself a kick up the bum sometimes!”
If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?
“Probably my hair ahaha. I don’t know what I do but at every gig or with new person I meet, they fucking love my hair. Healthy apparently ahaha”.
Do you have any gig’s coming up?
“Not yet. We will see where the rest of the year takes me”.
