Sometimes a song captures a moment so perfectly it takes on a life of its own. UK singer-songwriter Samuel Jack’s ‘Feels Like Summer’ has done just that this summer, with over 10 million worldwide streams, it’s become one of the first ever tracks to break out of Instagram Reels in America before taking off at TikTok, then firing into the top 40 of Spotify’s Global Viral Chart and into a further 12 of Spotify’s national viral charts
Here’s what Samuel had to say when we got the chance to ask him some questions.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
“I was influenced by all the soul legends of yesteryear, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Paul Simon. Old school hip hop, Beastie Boys, Tribe Called Quest, and lots of pop have also massively influenced me through the years too”.
Tell us about your new single Feels Like Summer…
“It’s a nostalgic song full of hope for the future about the warmth that summer brings, physically and emotionally. I was inspired to write the song after a conversation with a friend, reminiscing about summers gone by. Moments when we were growing up that were care free and beautiful. I remember those times well. It’s been incredible to see people connecting with the song around the world”.
We love the video for Feels Like Summer – what inspired it?
“We really wanted to capture the good time essence of summer in the city. Water fights, barbecues, party’s, picnics and a little romance all experienced through the eyes of a rolling skating heroine!”
Can you describe your music in 3 words?
“Honest. Soulful. Rich”.
If you could collaborate with any other artist – who would that be?
“Right now Loyle Carner – I’d love him to get on a verse for sure”.
You’re playing the Omeara in September – are you looking forward to getting out and playing live again?
“Man … it’s been a while ! I’m quite literally counting down the days. It’ll be a belter of a night, you’ve got my word on that, hope to see you there”.
If you had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?
“That time I got four parking tickets in one day. (that’s one every six hours..more if you account the hours I was sleeping :))”
What’s next for Samuel Jack?
“Touring. Recording. Releasing . Writing. Repeat. I’m just excited to get back out and get in rooms with people”.
