With the release of “Great Talker,” World Goes Round gives us a remastered and updated version of their classic tune, which sounds as contemporary and relevant in 2022 as it did in 1989 when it was initially recorded. The tune oozes with elegance and emanates funk in a way that could only be achieved by being recorded in the 1980s. Marty Walsh’s jangly guitar and plucky bass make the beat eternally danceable. This song highlights the golden voice of WGR’s alternate lead vocalist, Elizabeth Lamers, singing lyrics about a person who can always talk their way out of any problem.
In 1989 esteemed record producer Tommy Vicari (Taste of Honey, Billy Idol, Prince) recorded and produced an album with four of the most talented songwriters and musicians of the time, Frank Musker, Elizabeth Lamers, Jeff Hull and Marty Walsh – They called themselves ‘World Goes Round’. Between them the band had written for, sung with and played on records from the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Queen, Chaka Khan, Brenda Russell, Jeffrey Osborne, John Denver, Supertramp, John Fogerty, Quincy Jones, Arif Mardin, Air Supply. The band, like Fleetwood Mac and The Eurythmics, was built on romance. Frank and Elizabeth’s relationship began as a love affair before blossoming into a creative force that produced the iconic hit song “Too Much Love Will Kill You,” which they co-wrote with Brian May of Queen. The song was a worldwide success, earning the prestigious Ivor Novello Award in the UK for ‘best song musically and lyrically.’ For various reasons, both personal and contractual, these magnificent World Goes Round records have gone unheard for the past thirty years. Finally, the shackles have been removed, and they can be heard throughout the world. These songs sound just as fresh and contemporary now as they did thirty years ago, and with a revival of the 1980’s sound in modern pop culture, now is the perfect time to relive the magic of WGR.
