Marcus is a 23 year-old independent artist from Warrington (UK), he has been writing and performing music for several years now. He started off performing in his local town, then moved on to Manchester & Liverpool, before finally moving to London.

Who were your musical influence growing up?

“Dad always played stuff in the car growing up, which included A LOT of Bruce Springsteen, the Smiths, David Gray & Norah Jones. Bit of a random mix but I can’t knock his taste one bit. As I got a bit older it was all about Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines, Amy Winehouse & Oasis, all the good stuff. Half the World Away was the first song I learnt on the guitar at about 15. What an absolute tune”.

What had been your favourite gig so far?

“Best gig so far has got to be my last one which was at The Troubadour in London on the August bank holiday weekend. Cracking space with tons of history & got to play a bunch of new tunes to a packed room. I definitely recommend giving this place a visit!”

Can you tell us a bit about your music?

“Lyrically the music’s quite observational- hence the Arctic Monkeys & Amy Winehouse influence! I like to write about direct experiences & not make stuff too abstract. For example in my last two tunes, ‘In Modern Love’ & ‘Aspirations’ the lyrics are dead conversational and I’m trying to be a bit witty, while still making sense ahaha.

Musically it ranges from like stripped back acoustic stuff to full-band indie rock- I think I get bored writing similar sounding stuff to be honest. Hopefully that also means there’s something for everyone to get their teeth into”.

Can you describe your music in 3 words?

“Football, Sitcoms, Northern”.

For anyone who hasn’t heard your music yet what should they expect to hear?

“I guess they should expect lots of ramblings about the above- football & British sitcom references (things I love the most!). But also stuff about growing up as well as difficult relationships. I think anyone who hasn’t heard before will pick up a lot of indie-rock influences and tell who my songwriting idols are. That said, I’m hoping they’ll pick up something new from the tunes and get something out of listening!”

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

“I’m gonna get an EP out by the end of the year which will have some brand-new tunes on, dead excited for it. Other than that I’m sure I’ll get some gigs in & keep posting average content!”

Do you have any gigs coming up?

“I’ve had a busy summer with gigs so nothing in the works yet. But keep your eyes peeled on all the pages and I’ll be pestering you non-stop when there is!”

If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you like it to be?

“Hm. I guess that I’m a half-decent bloke who likes a beer & a laugh. Also a West Ham fan- hence half-decent”.
