Who were your musical influences growing up?
The Script, Adele, Bon Iver, JoJo!
Tell us about your new single Walking Away…
It’s about saying goodbye to people you love, who you onced love, who aren’t right for you. Its about doing what’s best for yourself. Some of the hardest decisions I made came from selfishness. But I had to be because being selfless doesn’t always mean you’re being kind to yourself.
You were raised in a Tamil household in Singapore, how have your parents reacted to you following a career in music?
Specifically a Tamil Christian house which meant there was not only a certain custom & culture to follow but there was also a faith I was disobeying. My mom was not too happy until I told her about my first release last november. It was a huge moment when she finally said “wow good job”. We’ve still got a long way to go but this is a great step forward!
Describe your music in 3 words
Melancholic, Honest, Introspective
If you could collaborate with any other artist – who would that be?
First name that comes to mind Kendrick Lamar!
What challenges do you face as an artist in 2023?
Everyone is creating so many beautiful tracks these days. It’s easy to get caught up in how much music is getting pumped out. What I always try to remember is why I’m doing what I do and to continue to do it passionately without worrying about things that are out of my control.
If you had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?
That I can do an excellent KOBA impression from Planet of the Apes.
What next for you and what do you hope to achieve in 2023?
There’s a lot more music to come! I am looking forward to performing my originals to an audience for the first time ever!
