Boshe is an up and coming electronic & indie solo artist from Leeds, she has released her debut E.P which she self-produced during lockdown, she has also recently leased a single called ‘Dizzy’ which is available to listen to on Spotify.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
“Growing up and I’m talking when I was a kid, like 9 years old, I was OBSESSED with lady gaga! I was so transfixed by her, and would listen to her album on repeat. I loved that she looked so weird , and different to all the other artists at the time. As I got older my tastes developed, I had a massive grunge stage at 13-16 years old, (fun fact:I know every single nirvana song), and luckily, never had an emo/pop punk stage (my least favourite genre, in sorry). I’d say my biggest musical influences today are: joy division, grimes, Santigold, Cocteau twins, Ladytron, and Pulp!”
What has been your best gig?
“I actually haven’t gigged as ‘Boshe’ yet, I’m pretty new to the scene, or ‘up and coming’ as they say, (I think that sounds better 😉 )-However, that should change throughout the rest of this year! But, I used to be the lead singer, of a Leeds based band, called; Strelka! We had some great gigs! I think the best gig we had was supporting a band called ‘desperate journalist’. (at the ‘Lending Room’ in Leeds!) All my friends and family came, so it felt very special. The worst gig was in York. I got far too drunk beforehand, which led to me, throughout the whole set, beating a tambourine out of time, wailing/ singing out of key , and doing some Ian Curtis esque dancing , which in my head looked super edgy, and cool! But alas, it did not- it would definitely have made Ian roll around cringing in his grave… (R.I.P).”
Can you tell us a bit about your music?
“So, I’ve been creating music as ‘Boshe’ since I started university in 2017, but I only uploaded it to soundcloud and never promoted it! It’s only since late 2019, that I’ve put more effort into creating a sound and concept to my music! I’ve just released my first e.p demo, called ‘Angel Boy’ (out now on all streaming platforms). Angel Boy, has been completely self produced, mixed, written, performed, and recorded! I was really bored in quarantine and decided to get productive! The concept for this EP l, was focused on the emotions we feel after breakups . It was Based from one that i had a long time ago now, but it really affected me, as it was my first love, and my first breakup/heartbreak. The pain that comes when love breaks down, is all packed into this e.p, so it’s super vulnerable/personal to me :-). My music has always been self produced, and very DIY. I use garageband, and always have lot of reverb, delay and harmonies on my vocals! I aim to make electric, and powerful music”.
Can you describe your music in three words?
“Dreamy, harmonious, emotive”.
What makes your music stand out?
“I like to think it stands out!!! (But doesn’t every musician)I think my voice is quite unique, as I blend lots of harmonies together, which makes it stand out. I have a mix of electro-indie sounds, and ambience to my music, which I think ties nicely together. It’s also quite ‘ spiritual ‘sounding my vocals at times, which I think helps give my music a sort of ‘Boshe’ stamp, and some sort of identity”.
What are your plans for the rest of 2020?
“Obviously covid-19, has ruined so many industry’s, taken lives and flipped our society upside down! – So, it’s super hard to know what’s going to happen the rest of this cursed year! But, I’d like think I’ll be creating more tunes, collaborating with other artists (perhaps provide feature vocals etc), get gigging, get as many reviews as possible, and i’d love to work with other producers (as it gets pretty tiresome only working by myself at times)”.
If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?
“I’d Like to be remembered for having great boobs!”
Do you have any gig’s coming up?
“None of yet, but wait and see. I’m determined to get ‘Boshe’ everywhere and anywhere! I’ll do bar mitzvah’s, funerals, weddings, golden wedding anniversaries, hen and stag Do’s etc, anything! Email me!”
