Set to commence his world tour in Australia this weekend, today Budjerah releases his highly anticipated second EP, Conversations via Warner Music Australia. The 20-year-old marks the release with his futuristic and resplendent

Who were your musical influences growing up?

“I grew up in church so I listened to a lot of soul and gospel music. I love Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin, they’re my main influences that I always come back too.”

Tell us about your new EP ‘Conversations’ & what it was like working with Matt Corby and Chris Collins…

“My new EP Conversation is about my life over the last year and how I got through it. It was really fun working with everyone on the EP, it’s alway a good time when everyone gets along really well. I love working with Matt Corby and Chris, I think they both really get me when it comes to music and my sound.”

Tell us about the track Get Down

“Get Down was written to be the opposite of one of my other songs called Higher. Me and Matt we were just hanging out and he had these cool chords and I sang the chorus and thought “we should just do the opposite of Higher” and it was kinda funny.”

Describe your music in 3 words

“Fun, honest, warm.”

If you could collaborate with any other artist – who would that be?

“I’d love to work with Anderson Paak. When I was in high school, I wanted to be like him cause he’s really cool and he seems like he’d be super fun to make music with.”

Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?

“My inspiration comes from my experiences and whatever happening in my life. If I’m having a happy week, I’ll write a happy song or if something sad happens, I’ll just write a song about it.”

If you had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?

“I’d like to be remembered as a kind person. That’s probably a very plain answer but I really care for the people around me and I really try my best to be kind.”

Have you got any gigs coming up?

“Yes! I’m currently on my first ever world tour. I’ll be at the Jazz Café in London on the 10th of May. Hope I get to see you there.”
